22nd September to 7th October 2007
The art historians DIETER and GERTRAUD BOGNER have donated the main
complex of their comprehensive collection of constructivist and conceptual art,
built since the late 1970s, to the mumok. In a productive dialogue with the
couple, the museum was able to select the works and groups of works that fill
gaps in the mumok collection or constitute valuable additions to the existing
holdings.
The Bogners’ donation comprises over 100 pictures, sculptures, objects
and site-specific installations as well as 300 drawings, prints and archive
materials. With them, a considerable expansion is made to the holdings of the
mumok in the field of constructivist, structural and conceptual design and
theoretical principles. The thematic connection between these holdings is
retained within the mumok collection and with the Bogners’ support they will be
studied and further expanded.
In light of an increasingly problematic relationship between museums and
private collections caused by unrealistic expectations and often unreasonable
demands by lenders and donators, DIETER and GERTRAUD BOGNER explicitly want to
launch a new donation culture.
